**WhatsApp Templates**

Learn to create effective WhatsApp message templates for marketing and communication. Follow the guidelines, avoid restricted content, and ensure hassle-free approval.

**Creating WhatsApp Templates**

WhatsApp marketing relies on pre-approved message templates from Meta for broadcasts, greetings, and ads. To get your messages approved smoothly, adhere to these guidelines:

* **Template Name:** Use only lowercase letters, numbers, and underscores. The name should reflect the message content. For example, use `welcome_message` for a welcome template, not random names like `jjjhhhh` or `shopify_template`.
* **Restricted Content:** Avoid content related to restricted items such as drugs or weapons. [Learn more](https://business.whatsapp.com/policy) about restrictions.
* **No Sensitive Data:** Do not request financial or sensitive information.
* **Variable Format:** Use `{{variableName}}` for variables and provide clear samples. For instance:
  * `{{name}} = John`
  * `{{price}} = 138 INR`
  * `{{companyName}} = WooChat`

After creating your template, submit it for approval. The approval process can take up to 24 hours, and you will receive a tag indicating the template's status.

**Template Categories**

Templates are categorized into three types:

* **Utility:** Triggered by user actions or requests, including details about transactions, accounts, subscriptions, or interactions. For example, an order confirmation must include the order number.
* **Marketing:** Includes promotional or advertising content.
* **Authentication:** Used for verifying users, such as sending one-time passcodes.

Templates with both utility and marketing content will be classified as marketing templates.

**Template Status**

Once created and approved, a template can have the following statuses:

* **Pending:** Awaiting review by Meta.
* **Approved:** Ready to be used.
* **Rejected:** Not approved due to miscategorization or other issues.

To prevent rejection due to miscategorization, include `allow_category_change` set to `Yes` in your creation request.

**Template Types**

Only templates with an Approved status can be sent. The types include:

* **Text Templates:** Simple message templates with text only.
* **Media Templates:** Include images or videos, like flyers or mini-presentations.
* **Interactive Message Templates:** Allow users to interact within the message, such as clicking buttons or making selections.
* **Multi-Product Message Templates:** Showcase multiple products or options in a mini-catalog.
* **Location-Based Message Templates:** Include maps or directions for location-based services or physical stores.
