Understand META's pricing model for customer interactions. Instead of charging per message, META bases their fees on the type and duration of conversations with your customers. Learn more about how this works below.

Overview

META charges for conversations rather than individual messages. A conversation is defined as a chat session lasting 24 hours between you and a customer.

Conversation Categories

Conversations are categorized into four types:

  • Marketing: Messages about promotions, updates, or invitations.

  • Utility: Messages related to specific requests, like transaction confirmations.

  • Authentication: Messages used for verifying users, such as one-time passcodes.

  • Service: Messages aimed at addressing customer inquiries.

Customer Service Window

When a customer initiates contact, a 24-hour window starts. During this period, you can send various types of messages. After 24 hours, you can only use template messages.

Conversation Duration

  • Conversations typically last 24 hours. A new conversation resets the timer.

  • Except for service conversations, all other conversations started by the business require sending a template message.

  • Each template message opens a new 24-hour conversation window for that type. Charges apply based on the conversation type.

  • If a customer responds, you can send any type of free-form or normal text messages within that window.

For instance, if you send a marketing template at 9 AM and a utility template at 10 AM, two separate conversation windows will be opened and charged accordingly. For detailed pricing information and use cases, refer to the provided document.

Free Tier Conversations

You receive 1,000 free service conversations each month, resetting at the start of each month.

Free Entry Point or Service Conversations

These conversations start when a customer messages through a Click to WhatsApp Ad or a Facebook Page Call-to-Action button. They last for 72 hours, during which you can send any message without additional charges. When a free entry point conversation begins, it closes all other active conversations, and no new conversations will be initiated until the free entry point conversation expires.
